A Little Dab'll Do Ya Gavin!

Timothy Birdnow

This is definitely the line of the week. Actor Mel Gibson trolled California Governor Gavin Newsom over his failures:

" My message to Governor Gavin Newsom is that maybe he should spend less money on hair gel and more on protecting against such disasters."

Gibson lost his home to the largely preventable fires.

Many hair gels are made with petroleum and are flammable. Wonder how many jars Mr. Newsom has tossed in landfills over the years?

LA Has to beg Canada for Fire Suppression Planes

Timothy Birdnow

Well, well, well...seems California had to ask the Canadians to send planes to drop water on their fires because they were in a dispute with the U.S. Forest Service and were boycotting American planes.

So they actually had to beg Canada for help!

Here is an article from last year discussing the dispute between LA and the USFS.

So once again bad public policy has turned this into an apocalyptic disaster. But we aren't supposed to mention that!

I watched several Sunday morning shows and all of them accused Trump of 'politicizing it' when in fact all Trump has done is lay blame where it belongs. We can't fix the problem until we affix blame - it's that simple. We need to know what went wrong.

We know what went wrong; the Democrats.

Oh, and California is importing Mexicans to "do the work Americans Just Won't Do" to put out the fires.

Myorkas Grantts Illegals Amnesty Because of BAD WEATHER!

Timothy Birdnow

In yet another standing hampton in the American eye of the zombie Biden's impeached DHS Secretary Allejandro Myorkas has granted amnesty to 850,000 invaders because of bad weather.

I kid you not.

Here is what Myorkas said:

"El Salvador’s extension of TPS is based on geological and weather events, including significant storms and heavy rainfall in 2023 and 2024, that continue to affect areas heavily impacted by the earthquakes in 2001."

If that is the case shouldn't Myorcas crack down on granting work visas now since the U.S. is experiencing inclement weather? Does not the fires of California and the snows of the rest of the country not warrant removal of these folks on "humanitarian" reasons?

Not with a Bang but a Loud Flatulent Sound

Timothy Birdnow

In his last days in office Joe Biden has extended immigration protections to Venezuelan drug gangs and criminals from El Salvador just to stop Trump from deporting them.

To quote former Democrat House Speaker Thomas P. "Tip" O'Neal "these guys came in like pr*&ks and they are going out the same way."

FEMA Kicks N. Carolina Flood Victims Out in the Snow

Timothy Birdnow

FEMA's director was on Fox News Sunday this morning trying to defend her record. It was laughable and Shannon Bream, the tepid host of said show, let her off the hook. But the big takeaway was this story about the survivors of the North Carolina floods being kicked out of temporary housing during freezing cold conditions.

Yes, FEMA is booting a bunch of these people into the streets in the dead of winter when they failed to rebuild for the people in the first place.

Funny; FEMA spent LOTS of money resettling "refugees" aka illegal aliens but couldn't be bothered to help Americans in North Carolina. But of course we also know FEMA gave orders to pass any home with a "MAGA" sign on it.

Bream did not press Deanna Criswell about any of this. She did ask about North Carolina briefly and let Criswell do the old soft shoe, talking about how everyone's needs are different and it's best if people go into a FEMA office to talk "face to face" with a faceless bureaucrat. In other words it was "tough luck MAGA Scum!" Naturally Bream didn't go any further.

If you aren't illegal FEMA and the rest of this junta couldn't care less about you. Kicking homeless mountain folk out into the snow is proof of that yet again.

Mr. Smith Leaves Washington

Timothy Birdnow

Jack Smith has resigned his post to avoid facing the wrath of Donald Trump.

How can he resign? He never had any legal authority in the first place as he was illegally hired.

I want an investigation into Smith and his collusion with Garland and with Willis and Bragg/Leititia James. I have no doubt crimes were committed. Smith needs to face the consequences of his crimes.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out Jack; that's Trump's job!

Why We Lose

Timothy Birdnow

When Newt Gingrich led the Republican revolution with his Contract for America he appeared to be everything we had been waiting for. He wasn't; he wound up being so double-minded and just plain flakey that the GOP booted him out as Speaker - and he resigned from Congress.

Gingrich had a lot of good ideas and enthusiasm but he was a terrible strategist because he couldn't stick with a plan, and the GOP caucus had enough of his changing the plans mid-stream.

At any rate I just caught Gingrich on Face the Nation this morning and he shows yet again why he was not the man to take us to the Promised Land.

The reason they had Gingrich as a guest? Because, in a time when we are being overrun by aliens of every imaginable sort he wrote a book where he praised people who were refugees to this country. It was tailor made for corporate media in that the host could bloviate on how great immigaration is and how much we need it. She spoke of Einstein and Kissinger for example. Well, Einstein was a world famous physicist long before coming here and he had a job waiting for him as chair of the Princeton department of physics. He wasn't even really a refugee - he had been living in England. We let him in because he offererd an expertise sorely needed by our military weapons programs and everyone knew it.

As for Kissinger who the hell thinks Kissinger offered anything useful to the U.S.? He gave us our greatest competitor - China - and "detente'" saved teh Soviet Union from collapse, a collapse we would eventually force on them anyway. I would add that rumors swirled that Kssinger was an agent of the KGB having been recruited by them during WWII. He certainly worked for the Rockefeller Brothers Fund during the fifties. And Kissinger was wrong on almostt everything he promoted.

My opinion is he should never have been allowed into the country in the first place.

We needed Einstein but he was problematic too as he was an avowed Socialist and made no bones about it. but we needed him, as we needed Oppenheimer to run the Manhattan Project despite his being a communist (he admitted on his security clearance form he was a member of "just about every communist front organization on the West Coast".)

Back to Gingrich. He acquitted himself well, explaining there is a time for every purpose and now is not the time to let in refugees. All well and good but why write a book about this topic now? We can't afford to give the Left any tool with which to bludgeon us yet here he gives them just such a weapon.

There are 60 million aliens in America (legal and illegal) which is fifteen million more than the entire population of Canada. We need a total moratorium on immigration, much like we had between the early 1920's and 1965 (when Ted Kennedy changed the immigration laws and not only opened us up to immigration but favored those from third world countries). We do not need any more people now.

I would make a suggestion; Trump can buy Greenland and turn it into a resettlement camp. Make would-be immigrants spend ten years there before coming here. Somehow I suspect our applications will run dry very quickly.

At any rate Gingrich showed why we are forever losing; we have no coordination and no precision of attack.

Mission Creeps

Timothy Birdnow

Here are some of the things Los Angeles deemed more important than funding the fire department.

Los Angeles allocated $100,000 to the Civil + Human Rights and Equity Department for a "Midnight Stroll Transgender Cafe,” according to its 2024 to 2025 budget. The funding’s purpose is to "support a safe haven for unsheltered transgender individuals in Hollywood,” the document noted.

Similarly, the Cultural Affairs Department Special Appropriations budget allocated $100,000 for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Awards.

The budget also appropriated $8,670 for the "One Institute the International Gay and Lesbian Archives.”

The ONE Archives at the University of Southern California (USC) Libraries currently has an exhibit titled "Sci-fi, Magick, Queer L.A.: Sexual Science and the Imagi-Nation,” which focuses on the occult and "the LGBTQ movement.”

The budget also allocated $13,000 for "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Heritage Month Programs” and $14,010 to the "Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles.”

Los Angeles’ African American History Month, American Indian Heritage Month, Latino Heritage Month and Asian American History Month Programs were each allocated $13,000. (RELATED: LA Water And Power Officials Rake In Fat Salaries As Fire Hydrants Run Dry)

The budget also appropriated $170,000 in total for "Social Justice Art-Worker Investments.”

The LA Fire Department’s strategic plan made "DEI” and a "progressive work environment” two of their top three priorities—regarding them as more important than "technological innovations” and "disaster recovery capabilities,” which it ranked last. pic.twitter.com/6b6SdPUePC

— Christopher F. Rufo ⚔️ (@realchrisrufo) January 9, 2025

The LAFD was blasted for promoting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, and its 2023 to 2026 strategic plan stated that DEI was one of its "key goals.” A stated priority of the city’s first "LGBTQ” and woman fire chief, Kristin F. Crowley, is "promoting a culture that values [DEI].”

Silly me; I thought fighting fires was an essential service and the primary mission of the LAFD!

When you LIFE is at stake you don't give a damned about what race or "pursuasion" they may be.

Resurfaced video of fire dept. assistant chief inspires outrage after devastating wildfires in Los Angeles

From the Blaze article:

" The video shows assistant chief Kristine Larson explain why it is important to have minority members of the fire department, and then she appears to defensively mock fire victims. Larson was lauded as the first black woman to be hired on as an LAFD chief.

'This is actually appalling. This is a public servant?'

"You want to see somebody that responds to your house, your emergency, whether it's a medical call or a fire call, that looks like you," said Larson in the video. "It gives that person a little bit more ease knowing that somebody might understand their situation better."

She went on to address criticism that some women may not meet the strength standards needed to fulfill the requirements of the job.

"'Is she strong enough to do this?'" she said in the voice of critics. "'You couldn't carry my husband out of a fire.'"

"Which my response is, 'He got himself in the wrong place if I have to carry him out of a fire.'"

So this woman thinks it's your own fault if you have to be carried by a fireman fireperson and so you don't deserve rescue. Well, if that's the case she should refund taxpayer money. It's the job of the FD to actually do that.

So it's important that first responders "look like you" eh? Does that mean if you are Eskimo they have to hire Innuit? If Moari do you have to hire New Zealand Islanders? Why stop there; why not pair the attractive with the attractive and uggos with uggos. Make everyone post a photo in the Fire Department office so they can match them with the appropriate responder. If you look like the Elephant Man then they have to find some horribly disfigured person to rescue you - if they can't find one then you are out of luck!

I know; I'm engaging in reductio ad absurdum. But the logic is still inevitable. Her argument is so absurd as to deserve it.

If you are going to make this argument then no black or Hispanic or Asian folks should be sent to white neighborhoods. Put that in your bong and smoke it chickadee! A black woman shouldn't be called except for to maybe Watts and then they should have to ascertain the sex of the citizen needing rescue.

How about just hiring the best people, those who can do the job better than anyone else? I know; it's a radical idea, completely silly. Imagine it; basing hiring on competence!

Hall of Shame

Here are the nine Senators who voted against the Laken Riley Act:

• Senator Bernie Sanders (VT) • Senator Cory Booker (NJ) • Senator Andy Kim (NJ) • Senator Mazie Hirono (HI) • Senator Brian Schatz (HI) • Senator Tina Smith (MN) • Senator Elizabeth Warren (MA) • Senator Ed Markey (MA) • Senator Jeff Merkley (OR)

I didn't know the Archies singer and "rock me gently" guy was such a crazed liberal! (Actually that's a different Andy Kim).

At any rate shame on these people! If you refuse to protect Americans (which is the primary job of Congress) then what good are you?

Pallisades Reservoir Dry

Timothy Birdnow

Pacific Palisades Reservoir Found Empty and Offline During Firestorm Catastrophe – 117 Million Gallons Could Have Saved the Day

Yes, The Santa Ynez reservoir was closed for "cosmetic repairs" and so there was no water available to stop this.

From The Gateway Pundit:

Outrage is boiling over after revelations that the Santa Ynez Reservoir, a critical water source in Pacific Palisades, was empty and offline when a devastating wildfire ripped through the area.

The Los Angeles Times reported that despite the reservoir’s critical role in the city’s water infrastructure, it had been offline for nearly a year.

The Santa Ynez Reservoir, with a capacity of 117 million gallons, could have played a critical role in providing water pressure to firefighters battling the devastating fire that destroyed thousands of homes and buildings in Los Angeles, Santa Monica, and Malibu.

Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (DWP) officials claim the reservoir had been offline for "a while” due to a tear in its cover.

Now, incompetent Governor Gavin Newsom has labeled the situation "deeply troubling” and ordered an independent investigation into the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP).

L.A. Mayor Wanted to Cut Budget for Fire department

Timothy Birdnow

This is what happens when you put politics first, as was done in L.A.

Leaked memo reveals LA Mayor Karen Bass demanded her fire department cut an extra $49 million just ONE WEEK before wildfires broke out

FTA:

"'They did not want this out. It's an internal memo not to be distributed,' one currently-serving 25-year veteran of the Fire Department told DailyMail.com.

'It comes from top brass downtown, City Hall.

'They're trying to allocate more money for the homeless, and they need to start taking from everybody.

'But we already exhausted our budget. It's already tapped. That's why they cut the fire academy in half, so they could save more money. That's why we're not testing if hydrants work any more. We're doing everything we can to save money.

'We have fire engines we can't get parts for. When one breaks down we strip it of parts to put on other fire engines because we can't buy any more parts.

'If you shut down 16 stations, that's about 750 personnel. Then they expect us to take the same call volume. And yesterday we did 3,800 calls, almost twice of what our daily call volume usually is.

'We're already shy 200 paramedics, and we're on the verge of another 200 quitting because we can't do this any more.

'If we don't work overtime, they suspend and threaten to terminate us. It's untenable.'"

Trump Sentenced

Timothy Birdnow

Judge Merchan has now sentenced President Trump despite his appeal to SCOTUS. There will be no conditions, no imprisonment, no probation, and no conditions of any kind.

Merchan hopes this gets him off the hook.

It shouldn't; Merchan would have imprisoned Trump had the election swung to Harris, and he needs to answer for his abuse of power. They all do.

Now at Trump's inauguration all we will here is "the convicted felon Donald Trump", which is all that Merchan wanted at this point.

Payback is a bitch Juan! Don't think you can hide in your courtroom; the long arm of the law is coming for you and your crimes. Oh, and God is coming for your sins too. You took an oath and violated it.

Friends in VERY Low Places

Timothy Birdnow

So, Trisha Yearwood and Garth Brooks sang John Lennon's nihilistic anthem "Imagine" at Jimmy Carter's funeral. Odd choice.

The song was and is a communist screed promoting materialism over faith in God. The lyrics are:

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Sounds like hell to me. Certainly it's a rejection of all Mr. carter claimed to stand for - he taught Sunday school after all.

Who would sing a song denying Heaven or religion at somebody's FUNERAL! Essentially they are telling the Carter family that Jimmy is gone forever and that's that.

Brooks had been accused of rape and assault by a woman, and I always doubted it. But this makes me wonder...

At any rate Brooks and Yearwood (his wife) are big Democrat supporters, which always make one suspicious of them. And when Brooks says he has "friends in low places" we didn't know he went THAT low!

Shame on Coney Barrett and Roberts!

Timothy Birdnow

John Roberts (no surprise there) and Amy Conehead Barrett joined with the radicals on the Supreme Court to deny Trump's appeal to delay sentencing for his bogus New York conviction.

Coney-Barrett was a huge mistake and increasingly votes with the Left on issues. She may not be David Souter yet but she's trying.

Trump is probably being sentenced as I write this.

According to the article:

"First, the alleged evidentiary violations at President-Elect Trump's state-court trial can be addressed in the ordinary course on appeal. Second, the burden that sentencing will impose on the President-Elect's responsibilities is relatively insubstantial in light of the trial court's stated intent to impose a sentence of 'unconditional discharge' after a brief virtual hearing," read the ruling.

So they ruled based on vague statements made by judge Merchan that he MIGHT do something rather than taking it out of his hands when he has already botched this thing. What happens if Merchan changed his mind and orders Trump serve time?

The whole point of sentencing now is to humiliate Trump just before his inaugural. It serves no other purpose. Merchan knows full well that the media will be crowing about this, calling Trump a convicted felon on inauguration day.

The big picture here is that Coney-Barrett came highly recommended by the Heritage Foundation. Highly recommended. Of course it was the Heritage Foundation that devised the scheme that Barack Obama implemented in the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare. That tells me we should stop listening to Heritage.

The problem with SCOTUS is there is great pressure on the justices at any given time and it takes a strong person to resist joining the liberals and being loved. Barrett is clearly not a strong person and I didn't like her appointment at the time. Now we know she's willing to sell us out.

Doubt that? I give you the words of the leftist Politico:

"Amy Coney Barrett: Meet the last best hope for Supreme Court liberals

And you may have noticed there was no real protest over Barrett when she was selected. That is a sure sign. we saw the same thing with John Roberts when Bush tapped him (in fact the Democrats told Bush Roberts was the only guy they would accept.)

I don't know why it's so hard to find people with integrity and who understand what is happening in our society. The Left uses the law like a weapon. (The perfect analogy was used in the t.v. show "Better call Saul" where Jimmy's brother says "Jimmy with the law is like a monkey with a machine gun".) Any so-called Conservative put on the court is there to push back against such, yet here Barrett and Roberts are going along to get along and by so doing help to Make America Late Again (as in dead). But they will get some lovin' from the media and the liberals, yes sir!

Sadly the system is corrupted to the core. To get to a point where you can be appointed to SCOTUS you have to have been approved by the Senate to inferior courts, and that means anyone with integrity and brains will be blackballed. The system is designed to promote insiders. Roberts was the ultimate insider and remains so today. So too, apparently, is Barrett. And to stay on the inside you have to give the Ruling Class what it wants.

Shame on Coney Barrett and Roberts!

The Tarnished State

Timothy Birdnow

The incomparable Victor Davis Hansen looks at the California fires and both makes the same observations as did I but draws the same conclusions.

Good company to be in.

VDH calls it "a DEI–Green New Deal hydrogen bomb." He's right.

And he's right when he says:

"what we’re seeing in California is a state with 40 million people. And yet the people who run it feel that it should return to a 19th-century pastoral condition. They are decivilizing the state, and deindustrializing the state, and defarming the state, but they’re not telling the 40 million people that their lifestyles will have to revert back to the 19th century when you had no protection from fire, you didn’t have enough water in California, you didn’t have enough power, you didn’t pump oil."

He's absolutely correct; if you dismantle First World industrial society you wind up with third world problems. California is showing itself to be third world now.

It's not just there. Here in St. Louis we had a winter storm, not a bad one, but there was both snow and freezing rain and then it got cold. That was about a week ago and many of the roads are STILL impassable. I expected that here in the city itself; St. Louis doesn't plow the side streets and for good reason - they are too narrow. Last time they tried they just buried people's cars and took off mirrors or sideswiped cars. But the more major streets used to get done. Last night I looked at down to the corner and the main streat was largely blocked. My brother drove to see my father and the roads were awful he tells me - and he got stuck. AAA came and almost hit the neighbor's car trying to pull him out.

Our northern tier editor Dana Mathewson is probably laughing at such incompetence on the part of St. Louis (he's up in the Twin Cities) but the point is this wasn't even a bad snowstorm, it's just the authorites aren't dealing with it. I'm not sure why but I have my suspicions. I suspect it's the same things (more or less) than have led to the California fires - DEI and poor planning and probably some sort of environmentalist stupidity added to the mix. Maybe they aren't using regular salt anymore in favor of "environmentally friendly" snow remover? I'll have to try to dig into it more deeply. Certainly the city is lousy with DEI and also not spending on the fire department or street department.

We've had worse storms in bygone days and at most they have taken three or four days to clear. But this time we've been snowed in and, given the fact it's snowing as we speak, we'll likely be snowed in for a few days more (thankfully it's supposed to warm up.)

The point is this is what third world countries look like, and it's what Democrat-controlled areas do as well these days. Basic services fail first.

California is a huge experiment in reordering civilization, and thus far it's failing miserably. They have turned the golden state into the tarnished state and seem to want to double down on that.

L.A. Sent Fire Gear to Ukraine

Timothy Birdnow

Wonder what mismanagement looks like?

Los Angeles sent alot of it's firefighting equipment to Ukraine and then wonders why they don't have what they need.

I wonder if Zelensky will try to send some of it back? Fat chance sucker!

Oh, and Karen Bass
cut fire department funding by $17 million — just last month. So it was not a priority and now they are paying for it. But then the L.A. Mayor is just coming back from a trip to Africa so she clearly had better things to do with her time.
